It was between Mr Chips and West End Misfits …

I came across this representation of the Apollo by local artist Jim MacNeary.  I think it perfectly captures the venue in its later stages, with the makeshift, increasingly tattered, frontage.  The buses taking you direct to the venue highlight the local focus of the Apollo – despite its numerous ‘amenities’,  it would be difficult to imagine the SECC having a bus stop, chip shop and pub (such as Lauders) situated directly beside the venue.  Obscured by the bus would have been clothing store West End Misfits. No, I never went there, but feel as if I was a regular customer, as it seemed to always form part of the experience of going to gigs at the Apollo.  A Mr Chips (with the same frontage) still exists in Sauchiehall Street, and I wonder if this is part of the same franchise?
